Mental Health Training

Members of Fish Safe NS can receive a discount on the following Mental Health Training, offered by Saint John Ambulance.

Mental Health First Aid — Basic – 2 day
Mental Health First Aid - Basic is intended for adults interacting with adults (18 years and older).

 

Participants who take this course are well prepared to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, communities, and workplaces.


Mental Health and Wellness for the Workplace – 1 day
This course was developed with assistance from the TEMA Foundation to help all workers in all work environments to better recognize when a colleague is experiencing a mental health injury. This one-day course helps participants better recognize the signs of possible mental health injuries and how/where to get help.

Mobile Apps to Support Mental Health & Wellness

Whether it's talking on the phone, texting, listening to music, for most of us cell phones are a huge part of our daily lives. Help is now at your fingertips, wither it is playing a relaxing game or listening to an uplifting song.


The following apps offer free resources, as well as additional supports available at cost.


Please note that these mobile apps are not affiliated with Fisheries Safety Nova Scotia and the use of these external services does not replace the advice, guidance and support provided by health providers.   1. MoodFit – Daily goals, tools, and insights to help reduce stress and build up the fitness of your Mental Health. A better mood starts with MoodFit.

  2. Headspace – Make mindfulness part of your daily routine with tension-releasing workouts, relaxing yoga, focus music playlists, and more.

  3. Saying When – If you want to take charge of how much you drink, or when you drink, Saying When is a successful program that provides step-by-step directions that can help make you successful.

  4. What’s Up – This is an amazing free app that uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) methods to help you cope with Depression, Anxiety, Stress, and more.

  5. Doodle Art Draw.ing – With over Millions of users, Doodle Art is one of the most popular Drawing app in Appstore! The easiest & user-friendly yet smooth, functional & a perfect app to draw, sketch & doodle. With the tools of this app you can create dazzling sketches, wonderful paintings & awesome illustrations!
